More than 60 network operators provide an access to broad band
services (DSL, glass fiber, satellite, UMTS, WLAN Hotspots).
The regional carrier NEFkom has a high-capacity network of fiber
optic cables that covers the region. The network is currently approx.
300 km long and - like the approx. 3,000 km long copper cable network
- is designed with full redundancy. This meets even the most demanding
reliability requirements of well-known customers.Deutsche Telekom
has highly developed high-speed networks (e.g. ATM network, broadband
scientific network (BWIN), Internet and Citynet). The Citynet alone
connects the towns of Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen via a fiber
optic ring network with a total length of more than 200 km.
NEFkom, Deutsche Telekom and new network operators such as CompleTel
are systematically expanding the network infrastructure.
Nuremberg is integrated in the high-speed network sponsored by
the Bavarian state government as part of the BAVARIA Online project.
The network mainly connects the Bavarian universities over high-performance
paths.
