Information and communication technology in
Nuremberg and the region
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
An overview
|
| |
The IT technologies and all the associated services including the
media industry and network suppliers employ 90,000 people in around
8,000 companies in the region. Most of the jobs are in the IT sector
(hardware, terminals and distribution) and print sector (printers
and publishers) with some 20,000 employees each. These are followed
by the advertising industry/journalism/market research (16,000),
data and IT service providers (15,000), audiovision/multimedia (11,000)
and the software industry (5,000).

| |

|
| |
A clear focus has emerged in the region in the form of a continuous
value creation chain for pioneering communication technologies.
Network, network access and digital transmission technologies form
a key field of excellence with noted research institutions like
the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, the Heinrich Hertz
Institute and the institutes and departments of the University of
Erlangen-Nuremberg and the University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg.
The scientific know-how is enhanced by the development and production
capacities of internationally operating companies like Lucent Technologies
or Siemens. There are also many specialists for the development
of new transmission methods. This value creation chain is completed
by end users such as DATEV, Quelle or GfK, which use this technology
to handle large amounts of data.

If efficient business promotion is to make a name for the IT location
Nuremberg, it must concentrate on attractive clusters with good
growth potential. Clusters with a European-wide market expansion
capability particularly exist in the fields of optical communication
technology, mobile communications, e-business and the call center
industry.
|
| |
|
| |
Winning the nationwide MEDIA@Komm municipal competition means that
Nuremberg has a pioneering role to play in the e-government segment.
