Living in Nuremberg
| |
| |
| |
| |
Lively, urban, cosmopolitan, but also relaxed, compact and
with lots of personal touches - Nuremberg offers a high quality
of life with a very special flair. Nuremberg is not only a
good place for working, it is excellent for living, too.
| |
Environment
| |
Nuremberg's environmental data are extremely good for a metropolis
with a population of half a million. In a worldwide comparison of
the environmental conditions in 218 major cities, Nuremberg is rated
17th on a level with Bern, Copenhagen and Boston. This makes the
city one of the "top ten percent" of the cleanest metropolises
in the world.
| |

| |

There are several reasons for this: there are no environment-polluting
basic or raw material industries here and the city itself
does a lot to protect its environment. Specific programs for
reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission are
implemented on the basis of CO2 audits for Nuremberg and the
conurbation.
| |
| |
An ecological waste management concept ensures a high above-average
recycling quota of around 53 %. Another reason: The Nuremberg Reichswald,
one of the largest forest areas in Germany close to a city, is more
or less on the doorstep and the meadows on the banks of the River
Pegnitz and Regnitz form a green belt that penetrates the urban
triangle from Nuremberg via Fürth to Erlangen. Ecological urban
design and planning based on the needs of the people make Nuremberg
a pleasant city, in which people feel at home.

Living
From apartments in old Jugendstil buildings, penthouse apartments
on the banks of the River Pegnitz, modern living in new buildings
or factory lofts to a house in the country: Dream homes can
still become reality relatively easily and at attractive prices
in Nuremberg. Almost half the city comprises unbuilt open
spaces, parks, river meadows, fields and gardens. Careful
restoration and modernization of established urban districts
particularly make living in the city attractive.

Education
| |
Nuremberg offers a full range of educational facilities based on
the Bavarian school system, which is one of the best systems in
Germany. These include schools, training institutions, the Friedrich
Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, the Georg Simon Ohm University
of Applied Sciences and the Protestant University College, which
train young people at a high standard. The Europa high schools and
the English-speaking Franconian International School make their
pupils fit for the requirements of the merging world. Nuremberg
is also a strong location of national importance for occupational
training.

Whether grand opera or minor arts, gallery visit or museum tour
- the active art and cultural scene in Nuremberg is a constant source
of new surprises and inspiration and invites you to make countless
personal discoveries.

| |

Make a journey in time through German art and culture in
the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, the largest museum of its
kind. Marvel with the eyes of a child at the treasures of
the world-famous Toy Museum. The State Museum for Art and
Design attracts visitors with contemporary art.

The technically minded get their money's worth in the Transport
Museum or the Museum of Industrial Culture. Theater lovers also
have a good hand in Nuremberg, as the program for the opera house,
municipal theater and independent theaters is as varied as Nuremberg
itself. The movie cinemas range from small program cinemas for movie
gourmets and multiplex cinemas to IMAX cinema in Cinecitta, the
largest underground IMAX cinema in Europe.

or enjoy international folk music in the most beautiful
parts of Nuremberg's old town at the Bards' Festival. You
can also experience the historic ambience and the Franconian
way of enjoying life at the festivals in the old town or at
the traditional local fairs in the region.
| |

Franconian's hospitality and coziness can also be enjoyed excellently
under shady chestnut trees in one of the many idyllic beer gardens.
Franconian food has a long tradition - the original Nuremberg fried
sausage, the "Schäufele" shoulder of pork or Aischgrund
carp have their fans all over the world. Incidentally, Franconia
with 330 breweries has the highest concentration of breweries in
the world.

Not only those who appreciate traditional and local cooking
get their money's worth. If your senses tend to demand international
culinary delights in an urban ambience, you can look forward
to concentrated enjoyment in Nuremberg and the surroundings.
Thanks to a variety of creative and cosmopolitan restaurateurs,
there is probably no district in the world that is not represented
from a culinary viewpoint.
